Summer Slam 2009 Updates

I have to admit, I do LOVE this poster

SummerSlam will take place on August 23, 2009 at Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
Unless something happens, here is the current line up of matches....

Randy Orton (champion) versus John Cena in a singles match for the WWE Championship.
Chris Jericho and The Big Show (champions) versus Cryme Tyme (Shad Gaspard and JTG) in a Tag Team match for the Unified WWE Tag Team Championship
Rey Mysterio (champion) versus Dolph Ziggler in a singles match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship
Jeff Hardy (champion) versus CM Punk in a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match for the World Heavyweight Championship. I kinda expect Jeff to lose since this is probably his last match for the WWE.
D-Generation X (Triple H and Shawn Michaels) versus The Legacy (Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase) in a Tag Team match
The Great Khali versus Kane in a singles match
Jack Swagger versus Montel Vontavious Porter in a singles match
Christian (champion) versus William Regal in a singles match for the ECW Championship

Also, this will probably be Lilian Garcia's last event.
That really makes me sad.

John Cena on Psych

WWE star John Cena will be appearing on the season premiere of its original series "Psych."
Cena will play a special ops soldier named Ewan O'Hara.

WWE Superstar John Cena, featured weekly on the ratings' phenomenon "WWE Monday Night RAW," has been a staple of the WWE family since 2002. His career highlights include World Heavyweight Champion, WWE Champion, U.S. Champion, World Tag Team Champion and the 2008 Royal Rumble Winner. In 2006, he starred in "The Marine" with Robert Patrick and Kelly Carlson and most recently starred in "12 Rounds" directed by Renny Harlin. Cena will play Ewan O'Hara, a special ops soldier and brother to Maggie Lawson's character, Detective Juliet O'Hara on PSYCH. In this episode entitled "You Can't Handle This Episode" he will help solve the murder of two soldiers and take down an officer involved in weapons trading.

The episode was originally titled "Extradition: British Columbia", so the name change must have been to cash in on Cena's appearance.

You may recall that current WWE Divas Champion Mickie James appeared on A Psych episode last year as a roller derby girl called Rita "Lethal Weapon" Westwood.

Psych premieres on Friday, August 7, 2009 at 10pm.

Summer Slam 2009

SummerSlam dates all the way back to August 29, 1988 at the Madison Square Garden in New York.
This years SummerSlam is the 22nd one and will have wrestlers from Raw, SmackDown, and ECW.
So far there are only two announced matches on the card.....
Randy Orton versus John Cena for the WWE Championship, and Chris Jericho and Big Show will be defending their Unified Tag-Team championships against Cryme Tyme.
Tickets for SummerSlam PPV have been on sale since February 13, 2009 and they are almost sold out (They may be sold out by the time I post this).
Hey, it only took them 5 months to sell out.

The WWE will be holding the first ever SummerSlam Axxess, a fan convention like WrestleMania's WrestleMania Axxess.
The event will be held at Nokia Plaza in L.A. Live from August 22 to August 23.
And as a special treat, video game publisher THQ may even preview WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010 there.

Bobby Lashley Versus Brock Lesnar?

On an appearance on ESPN Radio, Bobby Lashley said that he wanted to fight current UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar.
Of course we all know that Brock and Bobby both worked for WWE.
But how cool would it be (and how many tickets would they sell) if Vince could somehow wrangle the UFC into working with the WWE to do this match up at a WWE PPV?

Of course it won't happen.
Brock has distanced himself from the WWE, although even in the cage he still acts like a good old fashioned pro wrestling heel.
Just look at his last fight. His antics after the match would make Stone Cold Steve Austin proud.
And Bobby is signed with TNA, WWE's main rival.
Yes he said in that same ESPN interview that he has signed a TNA contract and will be appearing at the TNA Victory Road pay-per-view on Sunday.

But Vince is always looking for something fresh and exciting, this would be a world class event, combining pro wrestling and MMA.
Of course the match would have to be straight up MMA rules.
No run-ins by Kane or John Cena or Batista.
No sudden appearance by the Undertaker.
(Though in the middle of the bout, how cool would it be to have the lights go out and hear "Bonnng!"?)

No WWE RAW Next Week?

Yeah last night was Monday Night RAW, but the big news is what about next weeks Raw?
There is a conflict as to who will get an event at the Pepsi Center in Denver next Monday night.
Here is the latest update I have found.....

WWE out, Lakers-Nuggets in for Game 4

The controversy over the double booking of the Pepsi Center on Monday has been resolved ... at least partially.
Kroenke Sports Enterprises, which owns the Nuggets and the arena, booked a WWE "Monday Night Raw" wrestling show on Monday, which conflicted with Game 4 of the Western Conference finals between the Nuggets and the Lakers.
The Denver Post reported that the game will go on as scheduled. Matter settled, at least as far as the arena is concerned.
WWE? That's another matter. "I'm up the creek and I don't have a paddle, either," Vince McMahon, WWE chairman, told the Denver Post. I really don't know what to do.... I have no idea what's going to happen."

And what will happen?
The WWE is looking for a replacement venue on very short notice.
Has a Raw broadcast ever been canceled?

Rumors are floating around that they may tape RAW on Saturday night at the WWE live event in Salt Lake City.
Another idea is that they may tape RAW in Colorado Springs on Monday.
But what about all the RAW tickets already sold?
Do the people in Denver drive the 70 some odd miles to Colorado Springs?
Or will Vince just pull the WWE trucks into the Pepsi Center parking lot, go "old school" and set the ring up there and have it in the parking lot?

I have to admit, I like that last idea best no matter how illogical it is.
The idea of seeing John Cena, Batista, Matt Hardy, Randy Orton or Big Show battling under the stars outside in a ring is awesome.

WWE Wrestling News

Tonight on WWE Raw will be a handicap match, John Cena and Batista versus Randy Orton, Ted DiBiase, and Cody Rhodes.

It looks like The Undertaker will be requiring arthroscopic surgery to repair some long-term hip and knee damage. The WWE is hoping one..., that they can get him back before SummerSlam, and two....that Jeff Hardy will hang around until Taker gets back.
Yes Jeff is pretty hurt up too (if you have seen him wrestle you wont wonder why) and needs a break from wrestling for awhile.
Have you noticed that WWE wrestlers seem to be getting injuries at an alarming rate lately?

The Chris Jericho / Rey Mysterio feud was started because Chris wants to work with Rey.

And speaking of Rey, the UK's Daily Mail says that rapper Eminem was seen in London this weekend wearing a Rey Mysterio mask while out in public shopping.

Batista defeated Big Show in a number one contender match, so Batista will face Randy Orton at the Judgment Day WWE pay-per-view.
BTW, Cena did show up there to distract Show and give Batista the win.

Despite the interference of Shawn Michaels, John Cena survives a Sweet Chin Music and is still the World Heavyweight Champion

WWE Title Match, Edge versus Jeff Hardy
Vickie Guerrero came out and changed the match to no-disqualification.
Chavo Guerrero gets involved and so does Matt Hardy.
But Matt turns on Jeff and gives him a chairshot, and gives Edge the win.

Funaki started as a shoot style wrestler in Yoshiaki Fujiwara's Fujiwara Gumi promotion and moved to its successor promotion, BattlARTS. He later found the lucha libre style more to his liking, so he moved to the Great Sasuke's promotion, Michinoku Pro Wrestling. In that promotion, he joined with TAKA Michinoku, Dick Togo, Mens Teioh and Shiryu in the Kai En Tai stable. Funaki also wrestled in the Universal Wrestling Association (UWA) where he won the World Middleweight Championship from Pantera on March 19, 1997 in Japan.

In 1998, he, along with Teioh and Togo, joined the World Wrestling Federation. Initially, they feuded with TAKA Michinoku, until TAKA eventually turned heel and joined the group. Over time, the stable turned into a tag team, as in 1999, Teioh and Togo (and manager Yamaguchi-san) were given their releases. Michinoku and Funaki were often used for comedic purposes, often having their pre-match promos dubbed. After Michinoku left the WWE, Funaki found himself as a lower card wrestler and adopted the gimmick of "SmackDown!'s number one announcer", performing backstage interviews between matches, while competing in the WWE's cruiserweight division.

At WWE Armageddon 2004, Funaki defeated Spike Dudley to win his first WWE Cruiserweight Championship. He later lost the championship in a six-man cruiserweight elimination match at No Way Out 2005. Since then, Funaki has mainly been a jobber to new and returning talent.

During an interview with then Cruiserweight Champion Kid Kash on an episode of SmackDown! after Armageddon 2005, Funaki was assaulted by Kash, who gave him a brainbuster onto the interview platform.

At the Royal Rumble 2006 pay per view, Funaki had the chance to face Kid Kash in a match for the title, when he was entered into a Cruiserweight Open along with 4 other former Cruiserweight champions, and the champ, Kid Kash. Funaki was pinned in this one fall match by Gregory Helms, who won the match and title.

Since that time Funaki, would regularly team with Scotty 2 Hotty during episodes of WWE Velocity and WWE SmackDown!. However, during one such Velocity taping, Funaki suffered a 2nd Grade concussion, where he was unconscious for just under two minutes.

Funaki would resume wrestling later that year, forming a tag team of sorts with Scotty 2 Hotty, which was mainly used to put over debuting wrestlers or tag teams.

Shoichi Funaki made a one off appearance at the Puroresu King Indy Summit, on December 31, 2006, reuniting with Kai En Tai DX in what was being billed as a Kai En Tai DX Revival Ten-Man Tag Match; Funaki reteamed with TAKA Michinoku, Kaz Hayashi, Dick Togo & MEN'S Teio to face five other wrestlers.

Funaki returned to WWE TV on February 16, 2007 on an edition of SmackDown in a brawl that involved the other SmackDown cruiserweights and the then-Cruiserweight Champion Gregory Helms.

Cliff Compton is a professional wrestler better known by his ring name Domino. He is currently signed to World Wrestling Entertainment wrestling on its SmackDown brand.

In January 2006 as Domino, Compton started teaming with Deuce Shade under the management of his kayfabe sister Cherry. Working a 1950s pop culture gimmick.

Calling themselves The Throwbacks then later The Untouchables, the team would become OVW Southern Tag Team Champions after Deuce Shade defeted Mike Mizanin on March 19, 2006, to win the titles for the team. The team lost their titles on April 5, 2006 in a 3-way match to Roadkill & Kasey James, the match also involved Kenny & Mikey of the Spirit Squad.

The team would go on to win the OVW tag titles another two times as well as win the DSW Tag Team Championship before making the main brand WWE Pro Wrestling Debut: on the January 19, 2007 edition of SmackDown where the team, now called Deuce N' Domino, began squashing jobber teams, although on the February 2 edition of SmackDown!, they defeated Paul London and Brian Kendrick in a non-title match. They faced London and Kendrick in a WWE Tag Team Championship title match at No Way Out but lost when Kendrick pinned Deuce via a roll-up.

James Reiher, Jr., (born September 1, 1971) better known as Jimmy Snuka, Jr., is a professional wrestler and the son of professional wrestler "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka. He is currently signed to World Wrestling Entertainment working on the SmackDown! brand as well as in farm territory Ohio Valley Wrestling under the ring name Deuce.

On May 24, 2005, Reiher, as Deuce Shade defeated Chad Wicks in an OVW Television Championship tournament match he later went on to beat Ken Doane for the OVW Television Championship on June 7th 2005. He lost it back to Ken Doane later that month.

On August 24, 2005, Reiher won a #1 Contender's Battle Royal to earn the right to face OVW Champion Johnny Jeter, however he lost this match.

In January 2006 Reiher started teaming with Domino, calling themselves "The Throw-backs". On March 19, 2006, Reiher defeated Mike Mizanin to win the OVW Southern Tag Team Championship for his team.

The team lost their titles on April 5, 2006 in a 3-way match to Roadkill & Kasey James, the match also involved Kenny & Mikey of Spirit Squad.

On the January 19, 2007 edition of SmackDown!, Deuce, his partner Domino and their valet Cherry debuted with their 1950s pop culture gimmick, squashing a jobber team, and doing the same to another jobber team the next week. On the February 2, 2007 edition of SmackDown!, they defeated WWE Tag Team Champions Paul London and Brian Kendrick. They earned a chance at the WWE Tag Team Champions for the championship at WWE No Way Out, but failed to win the titles.

WWE: Daivari ,Part 2

Both Daivari and Hassan were later drafted to SmackDown! on June 23, 2005 as part of a package deal. On the July 7, 2005 episode of SmackDown!, GM Theodore Long put Daivari in a match that night against The Undertaker, and Muhammad Hassan in a match against The Undertaker at the Great American Bash. Daivari was squashed easily in that match, after which Hassan began to pray on the ramp, summoning five masked men to the ring. The masked men beat and strangled the Undertaker into submission, and Hassan put him in the Camel Clutch. Afterward, the masked men carried Daivari off like a martyr. The controversial imagery aired unedited in America and Canada despite the terrorist attacks in London earlier that day, but was removed from the Australian and UK broadcasts. (It should be noted that SmackDown! is taped on a Tuesday and, at the time, aired on Thursday, so the skit was taped 2 days before the attack occurred.)

In late-July, UPN requested WWE to keep Muhammad Hassan off of their network. WWE complied, effectively removing him from SmackDown! At the The Great American Bash 2005, after Hassan lost in a match with The Undertaker, Hassan was given the Last Ride through an open stage ramp onto a concrete floor where it was reported that he sustained serious injuries and had to be rushed to a nearby medical facility; this was an angle aimed to "kill off" the character.

Although Hassan (Mark Copani) would eventually retire from professional wrestling, Daivari reported to WWE's Deep South territory for training and repackaging. He returned from Deep South and, after working in Minneapolis, made his Wrestling Debut: in September 2005 on OVW TV returning as his "Sheik" Daivari persona.

On November 7, 2005, Daivari returned to RAW, acting as Kurt Angle's anointed special guest referee in the tag team match between Shawn Michaels and John Cena vs. Angle and Chris Masters. During the match, Daivari favored Angle and Masters, who won the match via disqualification when Michaels was caught with a chair Angle brought in.

On November 21, 2005, Kurt Angle announced that Daivari will be the referee for all his future matches, including his match vs. WWE Champion John Cena for the title at the 2005 Survivor Series. Mr. McMahon rescinded that at the kangaroo court trial of Eric Bischoff on RAW on December 5, 2005. Daivari remained aligned with Kurt Angle as his manager.

On January 10, 2006, at a taping of WWE Friday Night SmackDown!, Angle and Daivari jumped to SmackDown!, where Angle won the World Heavyweight Championship the very same night. Angle later revealed that his contract on RAW had expired, which allowed them to switch brands. However, Angle would already be signed to face Shawn Michaels on RAW. This non-title match went ahead, but Daivari would accidentally cost Kurt Angle the match against Michaels. Afterwards, Daivari and Angle argued, but when Daivari slapped Angle, he Angle Slammed Daivari over the ropes and down to the floor on the outside of the ring. During the break on WWE.com Unlimited, an enraged Angle made it known that Daivari's services were no longer needed, and that "he sucks".

Edge, Part 5

During the ECW feud, Edge also won the #1 contendership for the WWE Title against The Big Show on RAW. While #1 contender Edge interfered in a WWE Title match between champion John Cena and challenger Rob Van Dam, helping Van Dam win the title. However, Edge was unable to win the title when he got his shot at it at Vengeance 2006.

Two weeks later, on the July 3 edition of RAW, Edge pinned Rob Van Dam in a Triple Threat No Disqualification Match, after blindsiding John Cena with the title belt, to become WWE Champion for the second time. The match marked the first time the WWE Championship changed hands on RAW since October 8, 2001.

Winning the title re-ignited his feud with John Cena from earlier in the year with Edge taking a shortcut at SNME (losing by disqualification) in order to retain his title. As a result of these tactics, Cena snapped and F-Ued him through the Spanish announcer's table. A match was later made for SummerSlam 2006 where if Edge was disqualified he would not only lose the match, but also his title. In the SummerSlam match, Edge managed to retain his title by pinning Cena after hitting him in the back of the head with brass knuckles while Lita distracted the referee.

On the next night's RAW, Lita, at Edge's command, threw John Cena's customized "spinner" belt into the Long Island Sound, declaring the end of the "Cena era" in his life. Following that, a column of smoke descended from the rafters concealing his brand new "Rated R" version of the belt. Cena, however, continued to haunt Edge, only to interfere in Edge's match and chase him down to the outside of the building, beat him down, and toss him into the polluted Long Island Sound himself. The next week, Cena came out, procuring a "three year" contract to SmackDown! and promising to sign it if Edge could beat him one more time. Edge agreed, on the condition the match be a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs Match (TLC), and held at Unforgiven 2006 in Edge's home town of Toronto. At the event, he lost the championship to Cena after Cena F-Ued him through two stacked tables from the ladder.

On the October 2 episode of RAW, interference from D-Generation X (Shawn Michaels and Triple H) cost Edge his "final chance" at Cena's WWE Championship in a Steel Cage. Though the interference was a response to the interference of Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch, Edge joined forces with Randy Orton in a feud against DX. Edge cited Orton's lack of success after being kicked out of Evolution by Triple H and DX's "stale" antics "taking up TV time" as reasons to join forces. The duo succeeded early on defeating DX at Cyber Sunday with thanks to guest referee Eric Bischoff. The pair then won the World Tag Team Championship from Ric Flair and Roddy Piper on the November 13 RAW, giving Edge sole possession of the World Tag Team Championship title reign record at 11 reigns. The success halted at Survivor Series 2006 when Team Rated-RKO was defeated by Team DX, 5-0, in a clean sweep.

The feud with DX continued at New Year's Revolution 2007 where Edge and Orton were battered by DX and the match ended in a no contest. However, Edge and Orton claimed victory on the grounds that Triple H legitimately tore his quadriceps in the match. To Edge and Orton, this marked the end of DX. Shawn Michaels vowed to deal with Rated-RKO and that vow was kept, when the next week on RAW he took out Randy Orton while Edge looked on from the entrance ramp. On January 29, 2007 edition of RAW, Rated-RKO lost the World Tag Team Championship to John Cena and Shawn Michaels.

As a teenager, Copeland appeared at WrestleMania VI as part of the crowd cheering for WWF Champion Hulk Hogan in the "Ultimate Challenge" Main Event against Intercontinental Champion Ultimate Warrior. He credits this match with making him realize he wanted to be a wrestler, following in the footsteps of Hogan and Warrior.
During his high school years, Copeland was voted "Most Likely to win the WWF World Heavyweight Championship."
Copeland has been married and divorced twice. He was originally married to the sister of Sean Morley (Val Venis), but they divorced after a while, remaining good friends. He then married Lisa Ortiz.
In 2000, he made a cameo appearance in the movie Highlander: Endgame, credited as "Road Bandit". During the appearance, actor Adrian Paul remarks "Looks like you've lost your edge, lad" after defeating him in a sword fight.
His autobiography, entitled "Adam Copeland On Edge", was published on November 4, 2004. He was only the second WWE wrestler (after Mick Foley) to actually write their autobiography himself, instead of using a ghost writer like many other wrestlers. Incidentally, Foley wrote the foreword to this book.
Copeland had a tattoo on his upper biceps of a shark flexing its arm that resembled the protagonists of the cartoon "Street Sharks". He later covered that tattoo with a tattoo of a sun.
Copeland now sports a tattoo of a black star with red outline on his upper right bicep.
Copeland used to play youth hockey with current Montreal Canadian, Aaron Downey.
Copeland, as Edge, has (so far) appeared in every game in the WWE Smackdown! / WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW series.
Copeland is currently 5-0 at WrestleMania (This is the second longest streak after Undertaker's 14-0 streak

He is employed by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), where he performs on their WWE Raw brand

During his WWE career, Cena has held the WWE Championship three times and the World Heavyweight Championship once.
He has also been the United States Champion three times and one half of the World Tag Team Champions twice.
Before being promoted to the WWE, he trained in and wrestled for Ultimate Pro Wrestling and Ohio Valley Wrestling, holding the top titles of both promotions.
His rap album, You Can't See Me debuted at #15 on the US Billboard 200 chart.

Carlos "Carly" Colón, Jr. was born on February 21, 1979.
He is a Puerto Rican pro wrestler better known internationally by the WWE ring name Carlito; while on his native Puerto Rico he's known as both Carly and Carlito. He is currently performing on the RAW brand of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and, occasionally, the World Wrestling Council (WWC) where he is an 11 time WWC Universal Heavyweight Champion.

The son of Puerto Rican legend Carlos Colón, Colón started out performing in Puerto Rico's World Wrestling Council playing the role of an almost unbeatable face. He had a long feud against Ray Gonzalez which lasted until the departure of Gonzalez from WWC. During this feud they exchanged the WWC Universal Heavyweight Championship belt numerous times. Originally his gimmick was that of defender of his father's legacy. When he signed a WWE developmental contract he went to wrestle at OVW as a heel. With this gimmick change from face to heel, he had disagreements (kayfabe) with his father and brother resulting in a feud aganist his brother Eddie Colon. As his popularity continued to rise, WWC's writers decided for a face angle which prevails until now. As of 2006, he continues to perform there on special occasions. On December 16, 2006, he went on to win the WWC Heavyweight Championship, at WWC's event Lockout where he defeated Jon Heidenreich to win the title. However Carlito was stripped of the belt mostly because of contractual compromises with WWE the title was given back to Heidenreich.

In June 2003, Carly Colón signed a developmental contract with WWE and was assigned to Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), WWE's training territory on June 2. In OVW, he was briefly managed by Kenny Bolin. On December 15, Carly was placed in a special dark match before RAW where he teamed with Brent Dail to face Bart Gunn and Jim Steele.

During his time in OVW, Colón was still wrestling in WWC. In April 2004, WWE prevented a scheduled match between him and TNA's Abyss, which would have taken place in Puerto Rico.

On October 7, 2004, Colón made his Pro Wrestling Debut: on SmackDown! as Carlito Caribbean Cool and defeated John Cena to win the WWE United States Championship. With this he became one of only a few WWE wrestlers who have won a championship on their Pro Wrestling Debut: in WWE. He was the United States Champion for a little longer than a month, before separating his shoulder and subsequently losing the title to Cena. At Survivor Series 2004, Carlito represented Team Angle in a 8-man tag team match against Team Guererro, but was eliminated after being chased out of the arena by John Cena before the match started. On November 24, Carlito underwent an ambulatory artoscopy on his left shoulder.While injured, Carlito had a comical rivalry with SmackDown! general manager Theodore Long where he was made to do several demeaning jobs around the arena, such as selling hot dogs, shoveling snow in the parking lot, or mopping the floor, and in response created a petition to get Long fired from his job.

Using his WWE "Caribbean Cool" gimmick, Carlito had become a much hated heel in WWC, especially after spitting in the face of his own father on the Llamado de la Sangre event in November 2004 in Caguas, Puerto Rico. However, his successful run at WWE has since made him a loved wrestler in Puerto Rico, getting him cheers.

Carlito is the son of Puerto Rican legend Carlos Colón, the brother of fellow professional wrestler Eddie Colón who was recently signed by WWE, and brother of Stacy Colón who has teamed up with Carlito in a few wrestling matches in the WWC. He is also cousins with Orlando Colón who is also a wrestler.

His decision to jump to the WWE when the opportunity arose was a controversial one among the local Puerto Rican wrestling community. Since his father Carlos Colón is a legendary wrestling promoter, many fans and insiders believed that it was only natural for Carlito to take the family business from his father one day, but when Carlito chose to go to the WWE, he was not only criticized by the locals, he was also labeled as someone who had "sold out" his Puerto Rican wrestling traditions over for the "flash and flair" of the WWE. Carlito spoke of this in an interview with the Calgary Sun in which he stated "I didn't care about what they thought. I've always dreamed of working for the WWE when I was young, and I took that chance when it came".

According to Dave Meltzer, the reason Carlito is so fluent in the English language is because his mother is Canadian. Carlos wrestled in several Canadian territories early in his career and they grew up speaking English at home.

Carlito's theme music to promote the WWE Wreckless Intent album is, "Quien Soy Yo (Who I Am)" by Kaballon, but he does not use this entrance music. His actual entrance music is called Cool, which was featured on the WWE ThemeAddict: The Music, Vol. 6 CD of 2004.
